Gingerbread SVG: Two Free Cut Files for Silhouette and Cricut Machines

I don’t think there is a more iconic symbol of Christmas, than the gingerbread.  These free gingerbread SVG files are a classic way to add some holiday spark into your season this year.

Every single year our family makes a ton of gingerbread cookies to pass out to friends and family.  These designs will be the perfect thing to wear as we bake and decorate the batches.  I might even use the designs to print on the cards or apply to the tins we pass the cookies out in.

Fun fact:  Did you know that if you turn the gingerbread cookie cutter upside down it makes a reindeer?  Try it out next time you are in cookie baking mode.

We have two gingerbread designs available for download at the very bottom of this post.  Both a funny play on words along with a fully decorated gingerbread man waiting to be personalized with a name of your choice.

Make sure once you have brought the designs to life, to share a picture of your creation with us!  We want to see your gingerbread in action!

Please note that all the images used to display the gingerbread svg designs in this post are mock up images.

Christmas Cost Me an Arm and Leg

There is something amusing about puns.  They always make me smile (no matter how bad they are).  It only made sense to create a design with a play on words with the gingerbread man this season.

Looking for a few other sayings with gingerbread that you could turn into SVG designs?  Here are a few ideas:

  • Oh Snap
  • Lookin’ like a Snack
  • Let’s get baked
  • Want A Piece of Me?

These naughty list designs and even these funny winter files will be right up your alley if this design brought a smile to your face.

Gingerbread- Ready to be Personalized

The fun part about this design is you can adjust it to match the exact personality of the person it is for.  By adjusting the colors and the name you could make an entirely different look with each project!

Adding in additional elements to the gingerbread design, that describe the person is also a great way to make it personalized.  Really have it show-off what the person loves… baseball, soccer, basketball… you get my drift.

You can also use the PNG version of the file and do a print and cut for tags, stickers, cards, and more!  Remember though, when using the PNG the design can NOT be ungrouped.

If you are using adhesive vinyl with this file I highly recommend layering onto the transfer tape first.  It will make the final transition from transfer tape to finished product so much smoother.

Gingerbread SVG File Details

Both of these gingerbread designs have some pretty small pieces.  While both of the gingerbread SVG cutting files will work on either a Silhouette or Cricut cutting machine, it might take a couple tries to make sure you have the setting exactly right.

I always suggest making a test cut before cutting the entire thing.  This reduces your vinyl waste and ensures a quality cut.

REMINDER: If you are a Silhouette user and are using Silhouette Studio (the basic/free version) you will need to upload the DXF instead of the SVG.  The DXF file cuts crazy slow, because of how many nodes are in that file type.  This is totally normal.  I highly recommend doing a tiny offset of the DXF cut line and cutting the offset instead.  It will cut so much faster on your machine.
Once your project is complete make sure to show what you have been making!  I know that it can be scary and intimidating to show off your work at times.  I encourage you though to take a chance.  Growth never happens inside of our comfort zone.
Head over to our Facebook Community and take the leap!  We want to cheer you on!

So Many Choices!

When it comes time for me to sit down and decide on a project sometimes I can feel paralyzed by all the supply choices that are available to me.

  • Adhesive
  • Iron-On
  • Stencil
  • Paint
  • Printable Vinyl
  • Colors

And honestly the list could go on and on and on.  These gingerbread SVG files are a great to use though and get you past that creative block.

They are wonderful because usually you will use a brown for the background and then some complimentary colors for the buttons and accents.  You can’t really go wrong with reds, whites, and greens for the accent elements with these files.

Then dive on in and bring that SVG file to life!  It won’t be perfect (nothing ever is) but I can guarantee that you will learn something along the way.

When we create and try something new in life we either win or we learn (and most of the time it’s a little bit of both). I will say that the quality of the materials you are working with makes a difference.

If you have cut the same piece of vinyl 3 times and it still isn’t working… try using a different brand. My favorite spot for vinyl is hands down Expressions Vinyl.   I also love the convenience of shopping off Amazon so check out my Amazon favorites and tools here in my Amazon shop.

Reminder when working with the Gingerbread SVG designs:  Double check that you are working with the SVG file if you want to ungroup and manipulate the elements.  At first deciphering the various file types can feel confusing.  The description under file type might be html file or even internet explorer file (these are both the SVG).  If you aren’t able to ungroup and manipulate the elements in the design you might be uploading the wrong one!  Read more about when to use what file and the difference between SVG and PNG file types.
