Well if you haven’t yet figured it out, one thing I do know a little bit about is CHAOS. With 4 kids in my house (ranging from baby to teenager) we have a little bit of everything going on ALL THE TIME! This is why organization is essential.
On a side note….. read more about how I get it all done here. (I’ll tell you a little secret though just between you and me… I don’t!)
But anyway, the need for organization in my house (and my soul) does run deep. I have planners and baskets, and sticky notes, and command centers galore. If it claims to make things easier or more stream lined I have probably tried it. The few things below are the essential elements that I find help keep things running smoothly so that when I do have that glorious moment when my two babies at home during the day are taking a nap at the same time, I can quickly pop in my craft area and do a project without having to spend 30 min looking for my scissors and clearing a spot to work. (ok that still happens sometimes.. meh I’m human too!)
The very first thing that I use all the time to stay organized is my handy dandy Erin Condren. I absolutely love her planners and products. They are bright, fun, and fit the cray cray that happens around my house. It doesn’t really matter though if you use an ECLP (although they are incredible and so cute!) but you do need a place to write down, track, and goal set. It helps keep your goals, visions, and schedule straight and you moving in that direction. Get $10 off your first purchase here.
My favorite way to store vinyl is this cart. My cutting machine fits perfectly on top (I like to think it was made specifically for that purpose). I fill up the small drawers with my HTV scraps by color and put the rolls in the large drawers on the other side. I don’t have as much adhesive vinyl (shirts are more my thing) so mine is housed in the bottom two big drawers, but you could always grab a cart for each!! I also have my embroidery vinyl mounted in Ikea bag holders on the wall. Honestly if vinyl fits in it, I will probably use it.
One of the beautiful things about a craft room in my opinion is all the color that you can find. There is colorful paper, glitter, vinyl, thread, buttons, paint, etc. So I think it is important to make sure you can show the beauty in your supplies. I love to stay organized with clear tubs, see through jars, and a huge pegboard. You can group things by like category, label the outside if you want with vinyl, and use them to spice up a blah wall. Here are some of my favorite containers for a craft room:
So friends, there ya have it. The reality is it doesn’t really matter how you keep things in place as long as you know your system. It doesn’t have to work for anybody else but you and your family. If you haven’t yet found one yet, keep working on it. What works for you now might not work in a year and that’s ok too. Give yourself grace and flexibility… life isn’t a Pinterest picture. Make sure to find a home for the things inside your house (and craft room) and I promise it will make your life soooo much easier and less stressful!
So help out a friend, and share some of this page of simple organizational resources (and also give her a hug) because running a house isn’t easy… let’s face it, it is downright hard but, I know from experience, these little tips and tools will help make it a little less hard! Virtual Hugs friends… you deserve it!
